Northwest Austin is home to the Arboretum, Gateway Market, St. Edward’s Park, and high tech employers such as Texas Instruments, Motorola, and Motive to name a few. Hwy 183 cuts through Northwest Austin, providing access to other major Austin roads and making weekend commutes to downtown pretty easy. Watch out during the week though, as traffic from 183 North to town can be a bit taxing. Most of this area is considered the suburbs, but the area between 360, Spicewood Springs Rd, Mo-Pac, and 2222 is still considered central and is a very desirable place to live with its larger older custom homes and hill country setting. And if golf course living and some of Austin’s best shopping is for you, you might try the Great Hills or Balcones Village / Spicewood neighborhoods which have their own courses and are close to the Arboretum and the Domain (North Central Austin).
